CENTRO CONVIDAR

Public mixed-use, 2022

Centro Convidar is a public community center located in Peoria, AZ. It was designed with the main purpose to provide temporary housing for migrants facing the inconveniences of being stuck during the immigration process awaiting court dates after detention.

All the spaces are designed to encourage communal activities and sharing experiences with other migrants and the community which they hope to integrate into. There are spaces in the center designed specifically for hosting external guests, such as lawyers, therapists, hoping to connect with the guests in order to provide the help needed during the immigration process.

The project was created by readapting the Sunrise Mountain Library, as a Capstone project in my senior year.

MUTUALISM

Mutualism is a type symbiotic relationship where everyone involved benefits from each other. Immigrants benefit the society they integrate to, and vice-versa. Centro Convidar revolves around the doctrine that mutual dependence is necessary for social well-being. It is a place where differences are acknowledged and embraced, and individuality does not mean exclusion.
